FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

The following is intended to provide additional information about Queen’s View Bed & Breakfast offerings. If, after reviewing the information, you still have a question, please reach out by email or through the contact form.

  • Queen’s View is located in the heart of beautiful Bayfield, Wisconsin in northern Wisconsin on the shores of the great Lake Superior.

Bayfield is located approximately 240 miles (four hours by car) from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. Duluth, Minnesota is an approximately 90-mile or two-hour drive from Bayfield.

Airports serving the region include the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, the airport  in Duluth, Minnesota or the Gogebic-Iron County airport in Ironwood, Michigan. Please note that car rentals in Ironwood, Michigan may not be reliable while car rentals in Minneapolis or Duluth are usually readily available.

    DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM THE SOUTH

Follow Highway 13 north through Washburn, Wisconsin for 11 miles (~12 minutes) to Bayfield. Continue into Bayfield, following the signs for Highway 13. Once the turn onto Rittenhouse Avenue (also Highway 13) is made and with Lake Superior directly in front of you, watch for Third Street. Turn left (up the hill) onto Third Street. Queen’s View is one block up, across Washington Avenue, on the right. Please park on the street and enter through the flamingo doors off the driveway upon arrival (not the porch). Further parking directions may be provided at check-in.

Once you pass through Red Cliff and arrive in Bayfield, follow the signs for Highway 13 as it turns onto and becomes Rittenhouse Avenue. Three blocks after the turn is Third Street. Turn right (up the hill) onto Third Street and follow for one block. Queen’s View is across Washington Avenue on the corner. • Once you have arrived in Bayfield, most of the sites and activities you may wish to participate in are a short walk or drive from Queen’s View. The venue is located two short blocks from the heart of downtown Bayfield. E-bikes and regular bikes are available for rental in the area or you may bring your own.

As Bayfield does not offer Uber, Lyft or other ride-sharing opportunities, please plan accordingly for transportation during your stay.

  • Bayfield and the surrounding area is known for stunning views, rich history, outdoor activities, and easy access to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. The area’s earliest inhabitants were (and continue to be) the people of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Fishing, boating, hiking, kayaking, visits to orchards, a brewery, a native-owned distillery, a winery, and a variety of other outdoor, year-round silent sports are among the many activities to enjoy. To request a hard copy, view an electronic copy of the area Visitor Guide or to inquire about specific activities of interest, please either visit the Bayfield Chamber & Visitor Bureau website, www.bayfield.org, or contact Queen’s View by calling 715-600-1260 or sending an email to hello@queensviewbayfield.com.

  • The concept of the bed and breakfast is just that: a comfortable, safe place to rest, with a breakfast provided each morning. Queen’s View offers two suites and two rooms to guests visiting from around the country and around the world. Common shared spaces such as the solarium, wrap-around porch, exquisite gardens, living and dining room are shared by all guests. Continental breakfast is provided to all registered overnight guests. Breakfast is served buffet-style from 8 am – 10 am each morning and may be enjoyed in the dining room, on the porch or any common area, or in your room/suite. Coffee will be available by 7 am each morning for early risers.

  • The saying here notes “the lake is the boss.” While Lake Superior can serve as protector at times, our proximity to the lake also means the weather can change quickly and without warning. Our advice is to not put too much stock in any weather forecast and be prepared with layers, a coat, hat, and other desired accessories in preparation for all weather conditions.

Typical Bayfield temperatures in the summer (June – September) range from 60° – 80° during the day with cooler temperatures at night. July and August tend to be the hottest months, balanced by January and February where the temperatures may be below zero.

Note that the temperatures out on Lake Superior via boat, paddle board, kayak or other can be as much as 20° - 30° cooler than temperatures on the mainland.

  • As Queen’s View is not responsible for the cancellation of travel due to weather, pandemics, government-mandated restrictions, or natural disasters, guests may wish to research travel insurance for their own peace of mind.

  • Guests are welcome to arrive for check-in after 2 pm. Early arrivals may be accommodated with advanced notice and requests are dependent on availability. Guests are welcome to park at Queen’s View when arriving early to enjoy Bayfield, take in the view from the porch or the solarium (all subject to availability).

Check-out is 11 am. Accommodations for a later check-out may be requested (rooms/suites must be vacated by 1 pm) and may be made available based on availability.

  • As part of the bed and breakfast stay, a continental breakfast is provided each morning in the dining room from 8 am – 10 am. Coffee will be available each morning by 7 am for early risers. Guests may make use of the coffee and tea-making options in their own room/suite as well. Guests are welcome to enjoy their meal from the comfort of the dining room, on the porch, in other common areas, or in their room/suite. Due to state regulations, only those staying onsite overnight may enjoy the continental breakfast. Any guest with dietary restrictions and/or food allergies should communicate with the Queen’s View team well in advance of arrival so appropriate arrangements can be made.

  • As a historic structure, Queen’s View does not offer ADA-accessible rooms. The facility does offer access to one suite (Maggie’s Suite) and one room (Queen’s Room) on the second floor (Queen’s Suite) via a stair lift chair. Please note that access to the chair requires the ability to maneuver in tight spaces. Suite spaces may or may not provide accessible amenities.

For guests attending onsite events, the grounds and first floor of the facility may be accessible to those with mobility issues, though all spaces do feature uneven floors and the occasional step. Please communicate directly with Queen’s View staff for specific information or with questions about accessibility prior to any visit or reservation booking so the team can do their best to accommodate.

  • We are dog lovers ourselves. Queen’s View resident pup, Coco Bean, may be onsite at all times, though is quiet, well-behaved, trained, and will never be interacting with guests. If you prefer Coca Bean stay elsewhere during your visit, please let us know.

In the interest of keeping all guests safe and comfortable, Queen’s View asks all guests that other animals be cared for offsite.

Those with service dogs or psychiatric support dogs are asked to provide Queen’s View with ample advanced notice so appropriate arrangements can be made for lodging or events. Support and service animals may be allowed onsite pending approval of an advanced request. An additional $50 cleaning fee may be required for any animal brought onsite. Queen’s View Management reserves the right to make decisions about emotional support animals on a case-by-case basis and all decisions are final.

Guests approved to bring service/support animals onsite must comply with animal control and local, county, and state public health requirements. All guests with animals must ensure service/support animals meet all vaccination, registration and licensing requirements.

  • Because Queen’s View is a converted private home featuring antiques and art, and for the safety, enjoyment, and peace of all Queen’s View visitors, guests are asked to provide alternate arrangements for those under the age of 12. Guests between the ages of 12 – 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times while onsite.

  • The Queen’s View team welcomes the opportunity to host celebrations and honor special guests and occasions for groups from 2 – 100 guests. With spaces such as the exquisite gardens, a spacious solarium, wrap-around porch and expansive views, Queen’s View is well-suited as a backdrop for family reunions, private dinners, cocktail parties, wedding or baby showers, groom’s/rehearsal dinners, elopements, and weddings.

Charges for additional items may apply. The Queen’s View team is also happy to provide personal recommendations for area activities, favorite restaurants, activities, hiking trails, etc., as requested.

The nearest pharmacies are in Red Cliff (10-minute drive), Washburn (12-minute drive), or Ashland (25-minute drive) and are open during regular business hours.
